Authors: Cloud Evangelists Stephen Spector from Dell (Twitter) and Dave Asprey (Twitter) from Trend Micro
In order for enterprise IT organizations to adopt public and hybrid clouds, a cloud service provider’s security controls must meet or exceed the standards set forth by the organizations themselves. In addition to Dell’s world-class cloud security provided by Dell SecureWorks, Dell has partnered with Trend Micro to provide an incremental level of security encryption technology through Trend’s Secure Cloud Solution. The user’s going to pick dancing pigs over security every time. — Bruce...

Cloudscaling is a really interesting company run by a guy who really knows cloud computing, Randy Bias. It shows in their announcement today announcement today about Open Cloud Infrastructure.
Sure, we’ll see a slew of cloud announcements at this week’s Cloud Connect conference in Santa Clara, but you should take the time to read Randy’s announcement. Here’s why:

Check out Symform to see is a real-world example of the evolution of ambient cloud architectures. The cost per stored GB on this is orders of magnitude less than even iCloud, the next most efficient cloud storage consumer offering (more efficient for at least some types of files, like music).
Symform is based in Seattle but doesn’t rely on hydro-powered data centers in the Pacific Northwest like Amazon or Google do. Symform assembles an ambient cloud based on their customers’ local storage.

It’s really cool to see Sumo Logic come out with a $15 million series B funding from Sutter Hill Ventures, Greylock, and Shlomo Kramer. Sumo Logic is taking on 2 other companies I know and respect: Splunk and Loggly.
The founders of Sumo Data are Kumar Saurabh and Christian Beedgen, a couple really impressive entrepreneurs who cut their teeth at Arcsight. I had the pleasure of meeting with them a month after they were founded back in April of 2010, when they were still setting up in the TechMart Regis Facility on Great America Parkway in Santa Clara. It was kind of cool because they were...
